Getting Tested :: Bone Marrow Donor Options
Know your Choices for Bone Marrow and Cord Blood Donation
Kashi Clinical Laboratories focuses on organizing and providing bone marrow and cord blood testing services to:
- Family and friends who are not part of a public bone marrow registry program (Private Marrow Testing)
- Unrelated bone marrow volunteers who want to participate in a marrow donor registry to help others in the U.S. or globally
If You Do Not Wish to Join a Public Bone Marrow Registry
If you would like to be tested for a specific family member or friend without
joining any of the bone marrow registry data banks, Kashi Clinical Laboratories can provide the
necessary bone marrow test kit and supplies directly to you or your healthcare
provider.
Since tissue types are inherited, a patient's best chance of finding a match may be
within his or her own family. Most people can be tested regardless of age or medical
background. We offer a simple testing process. Call our toll-free number at 877-527-4452
or access the Pricing and Kit Ordering here at BoneMarrowTest.com, and we'll mail you the sample collection kit and full instructions with an easy return package.
Physicians and transplant centers ultimately make the decision as to whether or
not an individual is a suitable match.
Need
help finding donors? Read our Patient Services section to put our
experience to work for your cause. We
offer Long Distance Donor Kits, genealogy and family drive resources, fundraising assistance,
volunteer recruitment services and more.
If
you are tested for a family member or friend, and in the future wish to join a
public registry, you may do so if you choose. Learn how below.
If You Do Want to Volunteer to Join a Public Registry
An estimated 55 - 60% of the children and adults needing a stem cell transplant do
not have a suitable bone marrow donor in their family and must seek an
unrelated bone marrow donor.
A number of stem cell donor registries have been established in the U.S. and
globally to help find matches for patients with leukemia, non-hodgkins
lymphoma, anemia and other illnesses.
These individuals have volunteered to be stem cell donors and receive an
HLA test as part of the registry program.
Kashi Clinical Laboratories has relationships with all of the bone marrow donor registries. Below is the contact information for the National
Marrow Donor ProgramŽ registry and The Caitlin Raymond International
Registry, an independent registry. Contact either registry and follow their
instructions to join.
